Twenty-three year old Heather Frize was driving her mom's car, dropping off resumes to every possible waitressing job available. Tired of waitressing and in need of a change, she heard an advertisement on the radio about an award for young entrepreneurs. Long story short, she got it together, underwent market research, prepared business plan and applied to the Business Advisory Centre Durham. After interviews and reviews of the business plan, she received the Summer Company Award from the Ontario government.
With help from the BACD, she started out doing home parties around Durham Region. Getting a group of women (and occasionally some men) together, trying on funky jewellery and having a little wine, what more could you ask for in a summer job before going back to school? After a successful summer, Heather trekked back to the University of Guelph to finish up her double major in Studio Art and Art History, graduated in the winter of 2001, and set forth to tackle the world of entrepreneurship.
Heather still loves her business. She has been able to travel to different places, meet (and accessorize) new people and have fun while doing it (and buy some really great beads along the way). She likes to think that her jewellery is fun to wear for anybody. Her style is simple and fresh and she likes to make pieces that will mix and match with anything. The wrap-around bracelets are her favourite and receive the most compliments by far. For more information please check out her website at www.ecstatic.ca or contact Heather at heather@ecstatic.ca.
