In 2005, Giacomo Bruno came to the Business Advisory Centre Durham and participated in business planning, marketing, and financial seminars to help make his new business idea a reality. After being approved for a loan by the Canadian Youth Business Foundation, Giacomo was finally ready to open Isabella's Chocolate Cafe.
Named after Giacomo's daughter, Isabella's chocolate cafe is a jazz-style cafe offering premium fair trade organic coffee and tea, dufflet pastries and desserts, premium handmade chocolate, homemade gelato, and light lunches that include grilled panini.
Giacomo credits the success of his business to his business plan. "Without the plan, I had no direction and no sense of what I had to do to make the biz successful," he says. Although he faced several challenges along the way, Giacomo has finally leased his first property in downtown Oshawa, and hired two part-time employees.
