Success Story Details

Pure Power Hockey

Josh Bailey is a Bowmanville native who has just finished his first full season in the NHL. The way Josh tells the story, he couldn’t have attained his coveted position in the hockey world without his training from Pure Power Hockey and owner, Jeff Larsh.

‘Pure Power Hockey got me ready for my first OHL camp and for my first NHL camp. I don’t think I would be where I am today without Pure Power Hockey and especially Jeff’, says Josh.

Jeff Larsh, also a Bowmanville native, has an extensive background in hockey, playing 5 years in the OHL and 3 years in the CIS.  A Kinesiology major at Dalhousie University, Jeff has been training hockey players for over 6 years. Last summer, he turned his hockey knowledge, skills and experience into Pure Power Hockey – an off-ice hockey conditioning program run out of Whitby.

‘It’s a tough world out there when it comes to business’, says Jeff.  ‘It’s so important to know all the ins and outs and, unless you have some guidance, it’s very hard to be successful.’ Jeff found the guidance and support he needed in Summer Company. ‘I know the Pure Power Hockey program works. It was the business side of things I needed help with. The Summer Company program helped me create my business and take my dream of bringing NHL calibre hockey training to Durham players to the next level.’

Summer Company is a program offered by the provincial government that aids young entrepreneurs such as Jeff to find their way when starting their new business. The program, delivered in Durham by BACD Business Advisory Centre Durham, provides information and resources, skills training, one-on-one mentorship from experienced business owners and the critical financial assistance to student entrepreneurs to create their own summer business.  The Durham 2009 Summer Company program is now closed to applications for this year.  The application process for the 2010 Summer Company program will begin in December 2009.
